Hauling on the backstay effects tensions and the Harken manual mentions that care is needed to avoid stressing the bearings too much by having the genoa halyard firm then easing what was a tight back stay. Looking at my yacht it is obvious that a loose genoa could result in a wrap. I my first year of ownership I realised that too much tension and the sail is difficult to furl and too loose and it soon could see there was a small risk of halyard wrap. ![]() I am wondering if having this nice free running furler perhaps has avoided any genoa wraps (touch wood). But I keep a close eye on the genoa halyard tension and the top and bottom furler bearings run nicely (Harken). My yacht does not have a particularly good angle for the genoa halyard to mast sheave. I run a 9750sts, and wish it had the spreaders on instead of chopper during corn, because of cobs.Agree with stemar’s comment. Just bought the cob deflector kit to put on our 9750 and for how simple it is it looks like a pain in the a# to install.
